The Auld Alliance was an alliance between Scotland and France in the late Middle Ages, primarily against England. This cocktail is the latest in my quest to finish off nearly empty bottles from my bar, so the quantities are just what I had left. I added the vodka to make it stronger, and because it’s what I had left, not to insinuate Sweden into the alliance.
As in most drinks where the quantity of Drambuie is not carefully and sparingly considered, and unlike in the Auld Alliance, the Scottish side dominates here. It’s a very sweet and syrupy cocktail. But it’s pretty good, and there is some potential.
- 1 3/4 oz Benedictine
- 1 oz Drambuie
- 3/4 oz Vodka
Mix ingredients in a shaker full of ice and shake or stir until very cold. Strain into a chilled old fashioned glass over ice, preferably an awesome large sphere as in the photo.
