Not everyone likes cocktail onions. I do. They’re not included in our starter bar, but for ten bucks you can get a small jar that will last a very long time whether you use them or not.
Unfortunately there aren’t very many standard recipes that use this garnish. In fact, it’s really just the Gibson and the Vodka Gibson, or inventions like the Golden Gibson.
By the way, be careful ordering a Gibson in a bar or restaurant; more than once I have been served a Gimlet.
And unless specifically requested, use only one onion. It’s a garnish, not a snack!
Here’s my recipe:
- 2 oz Plymouth Gin
- 1/2 oz Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth
- Cocktail Onion garnish
Shake or stir the ingredients; serve in a Martini glass and spike the onion with a garnish pick.
