I’ve been working my way through a few of the IBA standard cocktails, and I know the Sidecar is a classic. It can be mixed with our starter bar ingredients.
Unfortunately it has the same problem as the White Lady, which is that it is too lemon-tart for my taste. I will try it again with different quantities, but I did not really like it this way.
Unlike Will, my threshold for tossing a drink in the sink is high. It seems like it should be some sort of crime to waste alcohol like that; I imagine Joseph Goebbels tossing his failed cocktails just before writing another piece of propaganda. Anyhow, by the time I got to the end of my Sidecar I had grown more accustomed to the tartness, and I can envision how you might be able to drink a few if you like tart drinks. Here is the standard recipe I used:
- 2 1/2 oz Cognac
- 1 oz Cointreau / triple sec
- 1 oz fresh lemon juice

This drink should have a sugared rim….it makes all the difference regarding the tartness.

Keith, thanks again. Great addition. You obviously know your cocktails.
